The Fraser River is at Risk! The Fraser River and the many salmon bearing streams that flow into it are being put at risk by the SFPR as currently designed. All notes in Gateway's Environmental Application about the environmental impacts to the local ravines are downplayed as simply mitigated with bridges or culverts - yet, when the question of animal movement in and around these structures is asked, Gateway has no real idea how badly the wildlife will be affected - or worse, they refuse to answer because the reality is too terrible to put into words.
Environmental Reserves in Ravines - The North Delta ravines have trout and Salmon streams, as well as a red and blue listed riparian habitat that is home to several threatened and endangered species, is full of nesting sites, and is frequented by over 160 species of birds. The construction of a four lane highway through these ravines will put them in severe jeopardy. This beautiful residential community on the South shore of the Fraser River is Sunbury - a pinoeer community with numerous original homesteads over 75 years standing and a rich aborigional history of over 9000 years. Gateway wants this in its place:
