Public Consultation

While the Government is following the letter of the law in public consultation, they certainly are not following the inent of the law. Despite the contemptuous attitude towards the consultation process expressed by Hon. Kevin Falcon, minister for transportation, the process is required by Canadian Law. However his distaste for Due process shows in spades by the way that Gateway's employees completely ignore every question they cannot answer, and overstate the benefits with every question they do answer. Yet in all the nonsense, some very excellent questions have been asked, and we must keep asking, and press ever harder for answers.

Though very few public interactions remain, we must continue to speak out and put Gateway to Task on every aspect of the project. Then for every misdirection or lie, put it on the plate of the Premier, publicly by way of the media.

"Consultation" without transparency is not consultation...

Delta residents have experienced multiple examples of flawed public consultation processes... Government announces a public consultation period, but is so committed to their agenda that they are unable to hear residents' concerns or consider viable alternatives...

  • Deltaport expansion disregarded input from residents and experts because the private port operator wants more capacity and environmental, neighbourhood, farmland and traffic concerns don't register for the Provincial and Federal Governments.
  • SFPR consultation on routes inflated the cost of alternatives and created flimsy excuses against alterrnatives...
    • "The SFPR surface route would provide better viewscapes for drivers over the river than the North Delta tunnel proposal."
    • See Gateway's Sunbury Route Memo
  • High Voltage lines through Tsawwassen - BC Utilities Commission disregarded alternatives brokered between residents and BC Transmission Co and rammed high voltage lines and towers through residents' backyards.
