South Fraser Perimeter Road - SFPR

The South Fraser Perimeter Road (SFPR) is a proposed new four-lane, 80 km/h freeway.  It will run along the south side of the Fraser River extending from Deltaport Way in southwest Delta to 176th Street and the Golden Ears Bridge connector road in Surrey/Langley.  In Delta, this new highway is being driven through expropriated agricultural land, the north edge of Burns Bog, through environmental reserves, and the residential communities of Sunbury and Annieville.  The SFPR is being built as a new truck highway, serving the expanding port facilities, rail yards and industrial areas.  It is also intended for commuters trying to avoid tolls on the Port Mann Bridge, once that bridge is twinned.

After the pre-design consultations, Gateway will apply for an environmental assessment certificate for their project.

July 7, 2006 - Sunbury Bluffs - Gateway describes a highway running along the river shore, having very little impact on the neighbourhood above.  In fact, 75 homes will be expropriated and demolished.  As well, many others will be significantly devalued by the presence of a four lane expressway behind their back fence.

June 7, 2006 - Sunbury Viaduct - In Gateway's discussion guide, there is not much detail about how their four-lane highway would get over the BNSF railway at Centre Street and River Road, but earlier pre-design consultations (2001) have detailed a viaduct that would begin just west of the cannery and continue over the creek.
