Who and What is Gateway?
Gateway Council
The “Gateway Council” (www.gvgc.org) is the industry lobby group that has been promoting a new truck route, the South Fraser Perimeter Road (SFPR) since 2002. Voting members include the following:
- BC Ferry Corporation
- BC Maritime Employers Association
- BC Trucking Association
- Burlington Northern & Sante Fe Railway Co. (The railway along the Fraser River.)
- Fraser River Port Authority
- Vancouver Port Authority
Gateway Program
The Gateway Program is a $3 Billion taxpayer-funded, highway building plan announced by Premier Gordon Campbell and Minister of Transportation Kevin Falcon in January 2006. The Gateway Program lumps the South Fraser Perimeter Road (SFPR) with the twinning-and-tolling of the Port Mann Bridge, and a North Fraser Perimeter Road.

“Gateway” (www.gatewayprogram.bc.ca) is a department created by the provincial Ministry of Transportation to promote and implement the Gateway Program. “Gateway” consists of numerous government employees as well as contracted consulting firms hired by the Ministry of Transportation and paid with your tax dollars. Their purpose is to sell the proposed solutions regardless of the opposition and in spite of the destructive nature of the existing plans.
Makes you go Hmmm.
It is interesting that the provincial government would use the name "Gateway" for the proposed road plans given that the Gateway council is the lobby group pushing for bigger roads. If says a everything about how the provincial government has been sold-out to the business interests and is completely disinterested in the public good.
Contact your MP, and MLA and ask why the needs of the public are being ignorred by Gateway.
